Description
A colorful Octopus Garden with Humpback whales. Back in the mid 90's I was doing a bunch of various hand pulled original prints using whatever hand printed methods I could, including some inventions of my own, particularly experimental methods of making lithographic prints by hand rubbing, (without a printing press). I made a fairly large print using a total of 101 different color plates to get the all the colors I wanted in my design of a humpback whale surfacing in a colorful burst of early morning clouds. Down below was a colorful reef with an octopus and other reef fishes. It took 101 days, one plate designed, drawn and tested and printed out per day. I thought it was great, a
classic, perhaps setting a world's record for most color plates used in a single print. Asking price was $1,000, but only one sold for $25. I had spent over $1,000 for the various plates and inks and handmade printing papers. One of my biggest failures. I lost all the other of the first 10 of a hundred planned edition when my storage space was closed and the contents were auctioned off due to the fact I was behind in rent for months. I still have the plates in a box on my boat. Here, I now reproduce the basic look of that original print as best as I can remember. (I have no surviving copy of the original, not even a photo. I was too poor then to take good photos of all my art work, we didn't
have quality digital cameras at that time.)
